Rotary Meeting of March 29, 2017

Induction of New Member

Harley Roberson was introduced by Phil Beckley as our newest Rotarian. Harley received his accounting degree from Hartwick College in 2014, and was fortunate to join the Petrella Phillips, LLP (formerly Fredericksen & Sirianni, LLP) firm soon after graduation. He enjoys his work at the Geneva office, and specializes in tax and financial accounting.

A lifelong resident of Clyde, he and his wife, Rosanna, continue to live there with their two dogs, Sophie and Emma. They are happy to be expecting their first child – a daughter – early this summer. In his free time he enjoys spending time with family, competitive games/sports, and traveling. Harley is very involved in his church, often volunteering there and in the community whenever his schedule allows. It is this concern for his community which prompted his interest in joining the Geneva Rotary Club.

Congratulations and welcome Harley!

Program

Shad Cook introduced our speaker, John Heilbrunn, Executive Vice President of Halco Energy. John gave an informative and thought provoking talk on energy conservation and climate change. Some comments to note:

• Bad news – the current Administration is dismantling the Department of Energy
• Good news – Our New York governor is pro energy efficiency and will fund several incentives up to ten years.
• NY residents are encouraged to take advantage of these incentives now, before they go away.
• The future of energy as we know it is uncertain. Going back to fossil fuels, coal, etc.
• Many countries are already imposing carbon taxation on those not reducing carbon discharge.
• Individuals can conduct energy assessments (audits) in their homes.
